PERSONAL MATTERS
Mr. J. A. Wallace, Mayor of Motueka, who has been oh a trip abroad, returned to Wellington yesterday by the Ruahine. He left in the evening for Nelson.
Included in the passengers who arrived at Wellington'by the Ruahine yesterday was Mr. S. G. Raymond, K.C., Crown Prosecutor at Christchurch.
Mr. J. Horsfall, a tea-planter of Ceylon, was a passenger by the Ruahine, which arrived at Wellington yesterday froni London. He was accompanied by Mrs. Horsfall.
The death took place yesterday of Mr. Robert M'lntosh Meffen, a well-known commercial traveller, formerly of Dunedin, who had only taken up his residence in Palmerston North three weeks ago.
At the opening of the meeting of th© ,University Senate yesterday, the Chancellor (Sir Robert Stout) welcomed, four new members : Professors Thompson (Dunedin), J. Rankine-Brown (Wellington], A. P. W. Thomae (Auckland), and Mr. F. A. De la. Mare (Wellington).
Mr. P. J. Dawson, managing editor of Truth, having severed his connection with tho paper, in order to enter into business in Auckland, tho Sydney trustees of Truth have appointed Mr. Robert Hogg to the vacancy. Mr. Hogg has been leader writer of the paper for the past eight years.
