LONDON, 19th January.
Mr. A. H. Ulingworth, PostmasterGeneral, replying to a deputation of representatives of newspaper interests in Great Britain . and the whole of the Empire, stated that his Department is doing everything possible to minimise cable and telegraphic delays. It was discussing the duplication of the Pacific cable with the Governments concerned, and hoped shortly to reach a decision whether the whole cable or only a portion should be duplicated. The Imperial Transatlantic cables were being fitted with apparatus to speed up transmission. The Government was also pushing on with the Imperial wireless chain. The Leafield-Cairo section was already approaching completion, and was only awaiting the delivery of material. After that, it was hoped that other sta-' tions in India, Singapore, Hongkong, and Australia would soon be completed. The Post Office had already established wireless services to several parts of the Continent, including Scandinavian countries, Paris, Berlin, Vienna, Prague, and Belgrade.
