A gold medal inscribed "For Good Conluct and ability for the year 1916" was presented on- board the Amokura on Tuesday to Mr. Robert Smith, an old boy of the training ship. In making the presentation the commander (Captain T. Dykes) apoke some words of encouragement to the boys assembled, and urged them to make the most of the opportunities that were afforded them in thejr «arly life. Mr. Smith suitably responded. The Union Company's freighter Waihemo arrived at Auckland from San Francisco direct on Monday morning. The Waihemo left Safi Francisco on Christmas Evo, and experienced fine weather ,all through 'the voyage except on Sunday last, when a 6outh-west wind and heavy seas were encountered. The vessel brought a general cargo, of which 2070 tons are for Auckland. From that port the Waihemo goes to Melbourne and other Australian ports to discharge the remainder of her cargo. " .

Owing to Saturday being a publio holiday at Wellington the Nikau, leaving to-night for Nelson, will not return to Wellington before Tuesday next. The Kaitoa will arrive her* on Sunday morning from Nelson. She is to sail at 5 o'clock in the afternoon on the return.trip to Nelson.

According to a radio message from the Somerset, en route from Melbourne with a quantity of coal, the vessel, expects to arrive in th» stream at Wellington at 7 o'clock this evening. The Somerset is to proceed to Tiiriaru and Lyttelton, but will return to Wellington to fill up for Home.

With general cargo for Wellington the Ka. toa is due here on Thursday from Auckland. Upon completion of discharge she will load general cargo for Lyitelton- and Dunedin.

At present discharging London, cargo at Wellington, the Port *ficholson 16 to leave here on Sunday morning to load for Home at Gisborne and Napier. The vessel will leturn to Wellington to fill up, sailing from here for the United Kingdom about the middle of February.

The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company has been advised that the liner Ze&landic, en route-from Liverpool to Freraantle with 1200 immigrants, continued her voyage from Capetown on the 28th December.

The F. and S. liner Durham, which arrived at Wellington yesterday from Newcastle and berthed at the Glasgow Wharf to discharge a. quantity of coal, will leave here on Tuesday for Napier, Bluff, and Lyttelton, to load for Liverpool. The Durham will subsequently return to Wellington, and will sail from here on the 12th February for the United Kingdom. The- Port Melbourne left Wellington at half-past 3 yesterday afternoon for Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff. The vessel is to proceed to Australia to complete discharge.

To complete Homeward loading the Arawa left Wellington at 3.30 .p.m. yesterday for Napier and Timaru.
