• " INVBROARGILL, 19th Jan. The Wairio J.C. Annual Meeting was held in favourable weather. There was a, fair attepdance. The track was very fast. A, jockey. G. Feilding. was injured when Silverepire fell with him in the Steeplechase. The totalisator handled £12,822, compared with £12,767 last year. Results:—

Wairio Cup, of "200 soys; one mile and a quarter.—Linden, 8.1 (H. Lowe)', 1; Glenshine, 7.7, 2; Kokowai, 7.0, 3. Also started: Rorke'a Drift £0, Awahou 7.7,. Mettle Drift 7.0. A great race.. Linden_ beat Mettle Drift by half a head, Glenshine three-quarters of a length away, Kokowai next. Mettle Drift, failed to^.draw th« weight, ' Glenshine being placed second. Time, 2min 9 . 2-ssec.
