THE SEMI-FINAL

BOWLING TOURNAMENT

RINK CHAMPIONSHIP

HATAITAI DEFEATED.

The match in the rink championship of the Dominion Bowling Tournament—one of the three teams (Christchurch) had a bye—was played this morning on. tho Wellington Club's green. The match was between Hataitai (M'Whannel), the only Wellington team to get so far in the tournament, and Karangahake (Jury). A large number of interested bowlers were present, and Showed keen interest. The green was in very much the same condition as yesterday, and only a trifle faster. The game was not a good one, the form of both teams being below championship standard. M'Whannel, particularly, did nob play as well as in previous matches, and his team were, ragged. The leading on both sides was poor. Jury's No. 3, Gallagher, played the best game of tho match. M'Whannel was unfortunate on three or four occasions when playing good, shots in finding the luck against him. Jury's form improved very much towards the latter stages of the game.

On the 13t.'i head, when the scores were see-sawing, M'Whannel was lying three, when Jury ran the jack to his own ball. M'Whannel drove and missed, and Jury scored three. In the next head Jury got 2, making him 14-7; but in the sixteenth disaster came upon Hataitai, their opponents appropriating 5. This placed M'Whannel in a hopeless position, 19-8. The fight went on to the 20th head, when the position was 24----10 against M'Whannel; and recovery being impossible, the last head was not played. This afternoon Jury meets Rennie (Christchurch), who had a bye. As Jury has had no losses in the eliminating rounds, and Rennie has had one, the latter will be required to beat the Karangahake team twice to win the championship. 'THE FINAL STAGE. The match Rennie v. Jury commenced at 1.45 this afternoon. The attendance' of spectators was small .for tlie start, but the numbers increased as time went on. In the first head Rennie's team, by fine drawing, appropriated 2, but ;in' the second Jury, with a fine draw with his second bowl, cufc Rennie out of 3 and got the shot. The next head went to Rennie for one.

The game went on with varying fortune, Rennie was closing long heads, and Jury short. The 6th head saw "4- all" on the board. The leading of Dickson (Christchurch) was par excellence. The Bth head saw some beautiful driving by Roirnie. He already lay ono as the result of a lucky wick by his No. three, and lie put both his own ba-lfe at the jaok, getting 3, amd putting, him B—4. The 9th head was disastrous to Jury. Rennie lay one, and with his first ball he cut Jury out of 2nd shot with a perfect bowl, and with his 2nd drew an equally fine shot. Jury was short with both bowls, and Ronnie got 5. "This placed him 13 to 4. This, with an accurately drawing team, gave him- a heavy lead. On the 13th head, the last before The Post went to press, the score was:— Rennie 20, Jury 8.
