Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., dealt with police and maintenance cases at the Magistrate's Court to-day... A middle-aged woman, Catherine Maikin, with many previous convictions, pleaded guilty to a charge of being an incorrigible rogue. Sho was sent to gaoi for three months. Henry Greenfield and Harry White were each fined 20s for third offences of drunkenness. The alternative- to the payment of the fine was fixed at three days' imprisonment in each case. John Perry, for a seventh oft'enoe of 'drunkenness,''was sent to gaol for a woek. Several persons who had failed to comply with maintenance ordes made against them and had allowed arrears in varyingl sums to mount up were proceeded against. Ernest William Man ton,, whose payments «-oro £97 4s 8d in arrear, was sentenced to three- months' imprisonment, .the warrant' to be suspended as long as ho pays 10s per week. Ernest Schmoll, whoso arrears 'amounted to £112, was sentenced to throe mouths' imprisonment, though tho warrant \v\ll. be held in abeyanco as long as he complies with the ordor and pays 10s per week towards tho reduction.of tho areare. A sentence of a month's imprisonment was imposed in tho case- of Patrick Leonard Johnson Foster, tho warrant to be suspendod for seven days in order that, he might have a final opportunity of paying off tho arrears, £8. Charles Warren Hiinning, whose arrears amounted to £68 15s, and William do Renzi Mathias, £33 in arreiir, were itontenced to threo months' imprisonment. (Proceeding.)
