SAILORS' FRIEND SOCIETY.
At tha Sailors' Friend Society last evening Miss Josephs gave an attractive concert. The performers' were: The Misses Josephs, Tolley, Irwin, Hopkins, Beekley, ■ and Messrs. Harrison, Kelly, Cowley, and 'Ashton. Mr. E. Harrison was at the piano. Mr. Moore, who was in the chair, thanked recent donors of books for their gifts. The competition prizes ,went to the Mahia, Remuera, Tairoa, and Maihari.
"Marama," the first produced convedy opera depicting Now Zealand life, ■ by Messrs. Ribbands and Don, local residents, was performed by the Hastings Operatic Society .for' the first time. Critics speak highly of the music and book (states a Press Association messagnK Tho author* received un enthusiastic ovation.
