MIRAMAR HOUSES
QUESTIONS IN PARLIAMENT
In the House of Representslives yesterday Mr. G. Mitchell moved for a return showing the conditions of the contract, or agreement, for the erisctior of homes at Miramar, also the amounts paid to the contractor up to date, and) the sum still owing. Mr. Mitchell saidi that the houses werte in the same stata as a month ago, whereas, according to a statement made a month ago by tha Minister for Labour, they should be finished now. He suggested the setting up of a select committee to investigate bha contract with Mr. Manning, and its fulfilment. As the Minister for Labour, the Hon. W. H. Herrtes, was not present, he asked the Prime Minister to answer his queries. Th© Prime Minister said that he regnetted he had no information on the subject. Ho agreed that the House and the public should be given the information asked for. There was no doubt that the position between the two parties was unsatisfactory; and it was a question whether the contractor should be allowed to continue. The ■ houses should bel occupied by now, and if the terms of the contract had been kept a large proportion of them would, have been in use. Ha would communicate with the Labour Department and ascertain the position.
