MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Only two inebriates appeared before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court this morning. One was a first offender, and was dealt with as such, and the other, Isidore Jacobus, with three previous convictions, was fined £1. William Coulling, an old man, for committing an act of indecency in Sydney-street yesterday evening, was corvicted and fined £1. Frederick Wm. Cole, charged with breach of a maintenance order, was remanded to Auckland. Erio R. Lister, a, young man, pleaded guilty to having stolen a quantity of knives, forks, and spoons from the Midland Hotel, where he was employed as a waiter. He was remanded until Tuesday for the Probation Officer's report. Vincenza Marmora, a seaman, for whom Mr. W. G. Mellish appeared, pleaded guilty to having been absent from the steamer Marama. without leave. Mr. Mellish said the man had been treated very badly by the crew. He had been torpedoed six times, and was one of the crew of the Lusitania when she was torpedoed. Captain Keiahstw said that Marmora brought ou himself the treatment by the crew by his occasional refusals to work, and by his bad language. He was a prohibited immigrant. Accused was ordered to be imprisoned until the ship sail, and to pay the costs of the proceedings.
Before Mr. W. H. Coy, j;P., at the Mount Cook Police Court this morning, three first offenders were convicted and discharged. A second offender was fined ss, or 24 hours, and Henry Greenfield, a fourth offender, v,-as fined 40s, or three days'.
