OIL STEAMER EXPLOSION

(Received October 9, 9 a.m.) NEW YORK, 7th October, j i A verified account of the disaster to the ] tank steamer Crowe shows that five people were killed, six seriously injured, and forty slightly injured. There was a terrific explosion of the oil vapours in the hold. Several hundred iron-workers j who were making repairs to the Crowe I were imperilled, and six large steamers .' lying near by were endangered. Fire- j men did remarkable work and prevented j serious damage as well as greater loss j' of life.
