For the third day of the A. J.C. Spring Meeting the weather was fine, and there was a big attendance. The fields were small and poor. Poitrel's defeat in the Craven Plate was a surprise, though Greenstead commanded considerable support. The latter equalled Cetigne's record established in the same race in 1918, when Cetigne, Wolaroi, Estland, and Desert Gold finished in that order. This was Poitrcl's first defeat in a weight-for-age- (event. Jack Findlay, who ran Greenstead to a head.in the Epsom, seemed sore in, the Suburban Handicap. Vespucci was favourably placed throughout in the Grantham Stakes, but lacked the necessary finishing dash. In the Gimcrack Stakes Aeon wae. in the bunch till the stand, when she moved up into third position. .. Results: — Second Hurdles,. a. sweepstakes of 2 soys, with 750 «ovs added. 1; about two miles and a half.—Knight of the Spear, 9.0, lj Sir Rep, 9.8, 2; Breastwork, 11.1, 3. Yucatan led into the. straight, but fell at tfhe last fence. Won by 12 lengths. Time, 4min 44^-sec. Craven Plate, a sweepstakes oi 15 soys, with 3000 soys added. Greenstead move! up at the bend, with Poitrel in hot pursuit,' but he was unable to overtake the former. Won by three lengths, four lengths betwen second and third. Time, 2min. 4£sec, equalling Australasian record. Suburban Handicap, a sweepstakes oi: 10 soys, with 750-sovu added; one mile. —Elfacre, 8.10,1; Kerwaka,' 7.7, 2; Amberdown, 7.11, 3. Elfacre immediately went to' the front, and was never ■headed, winning by a length and a half. Time, lmin 374 sec. ■ Grantham Stakes, a sweepstakes of 10 soys, with 750 eovs added; one mile and a quarter.—Daird, 8.7, 1; Vespiicci, 8.4, 2; Prince Charles, 8.7, 3. Prince Charles'looked a winner at the turn, but Daird and VS'spucci wore him down, Daird winning by a neck. Time, 2min 6ibee. 'Gimcrack Stakes, a, sweepstakes of 25 soys, with 1500 soys added; five furlongs.—Furious., 8.0, 1; Even Song, 8.0, 2; Aeon, 8.0, 3. The first two horses fought the race throughout. \Von by a length.
