MISS WRIGHT RETAINS LADIES' CHAMPIONSHIP

The ladies' golf championship of New Zealand was retained by Miss Wright (Timaru). who defeated Mrs. Orbell (North Otas;o) in the final, 7 up and 6 to play. _ Mrs. Orbell played beautiful shots at times, but was much less steady than hei opponent. Miss Wright went out in 41 and Mrs. Orbell in 43. Coming home, they did not hole out every hole, but Miss Wright's score was approximately 41. At the first hole both were on the. jrreen in 3. Mrs. Orbell lioled a lons putt, and-Von in 4 to 5. The next three were halved. Miss Wright won tho fifth in 5 to 6, and squared the match. M.'w Wright took the next. The seventh and eighth were halved,, and at the ninth Miss Wright increased her lead, and was 2 up. Tlio tenth and eleventh fell to Miss Wright, and the twelfth was halved. The next was won by Miss Wright, and tho two following hoiss were halved. Miss- Wright tcolc the next throe, making her 1 8 up on the round. Mrs. Orbell made a good recovery in the Early part of the afternoon round, but Mies Wright continued to play very steadily, and always had the match "well in hand. Miss Wright was on the green in 2to her opponent's 3. Mrs. Orbell first failed with her- putt for 4, but stymied Miss Wright, leaving her 2 for a haif, and giving her tho match. The consolation four-ball bogey handicap was wpn by Miss Alison (Auckland) and Mrs. Abraham (Palmorston North), 2 -up.
