HONOURING LATE LEADER
■MR. WILFORD THE NEW CHIEF.
A meeting of the Liberal Party was j held last evening. Mr. G. Forbes, the i Whip, presided. The following motion was proposed and carried, members standing :— "The Liberal Party desires to place upon record its appreciation of the great services rendered to the party by .the late Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald, and de- ' sires to tender to Mrs. Mac Donald and family it's sincere sympathy in the sad J loss which thgy have sustained."... It was proposed by Mr. T. K. Sidey, and seconded by the Hon. A. T. Ngata, that Mr. Thomas M. Wilford should be appointed Leader of the Liberal Party. This was carried. Mr. Wilford was born in 20th June, 1870, of Quaker parentage. He is a soa of Dr. J. G. F. Wilford. He was first elected to Parliament in 1896, and he | has held a seat continuously since that time. He has been Mayor of Wellington, chairman of the Wellington. Harbour Board,' chairman of the Harbours Conference, Chairman of Committees of the House of Representatives, and a. Minister of the Crown ir> the National Government. He is a commissioner of sinking funds for the City of Wellington, and one of the New Zealand trustees of £-t. John Ambulance Association, tion.
