SYDNEY UNIVERSITY . TEAM.

Members of the. Sydney University Rugby team, which is to tour Ne%v Zealand, arrived in Wellington by the Mberaki last evening, and were -welcomed; by a number of local supporters of the game, including Messrs: T. H. Jones (manager of the All Black team), G. G. Aitkeri (captain of the Victoria University fifteen), N. A. J. Barker, .and *A. ,• Jackson. Major W. P. M'Callum 'is manager of the visiting team, and Mr. J. Morgan is captain. . The Mayor said it gave him great plea- "' sure to welcome the team to Wellington, and he hoped that their New Zealand tour would prove to be a most enjoyable one. He referred lo the- fine record of war service which the students attending universities possessed, and stated that their intermingling abroad had dona much to strengthen the bonds of friendship between Australia and New Zealand. On their present tour, the Australians wera "up against it," and he did not think the community would grudge it if he said he hoped they won. He was sure that the games would' be .played' with the same spirit as had always been ' manifested by Now Zealanders and. Australians wherever they happened to be. „ •■■,-, ■' , ■ , ; Messrs. G. W. Slada (chairman of the New Zealand .Rugby Union), Glenn, M.P., Murphy, and Mansfield, and Professor Hunter, , also heartily welcomed the visitors. : ' .'. . . >The manager of the team (Major M'Callum) briefly thanked. those present for their very. warm welcome, and he felt sure that the tour would be a most enjoyable one. The members of the 1909 team, still entertained pleasant recollections of the visit. The following is the Victoria College fifteen for the match, with Sydney University at Athletic Park to-morrow after--.noon:—Baoks—Siddells, Nicol, . Aitksn (captain), Baker, Jackson, Gillespie, .R. R. Scott; forwards—J; D. Hutchison (wing), D. Scott, Low, Bacon, Hanson, Burns, Martin-Smith, and M'Rae. At the request of both teams Mr: Tom. Jones (who is leaving on Friday' to settle in Dannevirke), wUI referee the match. He has been associated with the local 'Varsity | management in arranging the tour, and ■ in Sydney had charge -of two of the visiting team's big matches—'Varsity-Ihin-troon Royal Military College-and 'VarsityGreat:.
