RAILWAY RATES

OUTLINE OF NEW SCHEDULE.

Ths new railway rates and faros will come into operation on Thursday next. The principal alterations are a new sehoduls of holiday excursion, suburban, 12-trip ordinary and workers' concession tickets. For-other classes of tickets tho increase is 25 per cent, compared with 1915 rates, from which, df course, must be deducted the previous increases.l

Fresh fruit, fresh fish, fresh milk, bread, flour, meat, tea, and sugar aro to bo charged at the present rates.

Tho increases . over tho 1914 rates in other classes are, Toughly, as follow: — Luggage, cycles, horses, vehicles, etc., 33 per cent.; wheat, 20 per cent.; timber, one-seventh; goods, live stock, haulage, storage, demurrage,.4o percent. Those increases absorb the increases made by tho Railway Department in 1915 and 1917. Many minor adjustments have been nvado.

Corresponding increases have been made in tho rates on the Lake Wakatipu steamers.
