In the Assembly, the Government was defeated on a snatch vote by 43 votes to 42 on a proposal to raise the abatement on income tax from £300 to £500 for married men. The majority consisted of Labourites, Nationalists, and half-a-dozen Unionists, including Mr. Smart, leader of the party. • No political significance is attached to the i incident.
