FIRES AND EXPLQSIONS IN ITALY
WIDESPREAD DESTRUCTION OF

LONDON, 11th August. The Daily Chronicle's Milan correspondent reports that an incendiary .campaign on an unprecedented seal© is proceeding in all parts of Italy. A large military powder magazine at Sangervaslo was blown up, shaking the whole city of Florence. Some bodies were hurled a mile. The death roll is not yet ascertainaible. Over a hundred were sent to -hospital. Many were wounded by falling bombs. Many persons'who were .on fire in the streets sa-ved themselves by getting , into' the public fountains, in attempt to blow up a magazine at Mugnano, Tuscany, by setting fire to adjacent' woods, failed. Armed bands assailed magazines at Piacenza and Catania. The military employed machine-guns in an all-night engagement, driving off the attackers at daylight. Anarchists exploded bombs in several Milan restaurants. Four fires which occurred in Genoa, Parma, Trieste, and San Antonio caused a quarter of a million, sterling damage, ' including the loss of a large, quantity of Government stores. . Other serious incendiary damage to' North and South Italy is reported, including eight outbreaks in eight neighbouring villages, all visible simultaneously.
[A cable message dated 27th July reported the blowing up of .the Royal Arsenal, in Venice as the result of incendiary action.]
