CUSTOMS ASSESSMENT.
The method of assessing the value of dairy machinery imported from Denmark, uvhen fixing tile Customs duty, was the subject of a question asked of the Minister of Customs b.y Mr. B. Masters (Stratford) in the House of Representatives yesterday. Mr. Masters said the question waa one of great importance to Taranaki. He had received complaints that machinery which was paid for c.i.f. and c. was assessed on the increased value of the kroner since the purchase was made, the increase being taken at 25 par cent. Thus machinery that cost £294 had to- pay duty on £372. Sir William Herries replied that if Mr. Masters would supply him with the full particulars he would hare inquiries ■ made.
