WANGANUI PORT CONGESTION

A deputation representing the Wanganui Borough Council and the Wanganui Harbour Board waited on the Prime Minister last night to enlist-his assistance in giving some relief to. the congestion that now obtains at the port and the railway station and goods yard. Mr. WA. Veitch, M.P., explained that the deputation had previously met Mr. M'Villj, General Manager of Railways, who hadl held out no hope of giving relief from the present congestion except by the building of a new station, which he promised to expedite to the best of his ability as soon as the local bodies agreed upon the site. It was explained that it might be years before a new station would be available, and in the meantime the port was losing trade because of the congestion. ; ,

Mr. Massey said the problem was a difficult one, but he would consult the General Manager oi Eailways and see if some method could not be evolved which would give some measure of relief.
