COLD AND CHANGEABLE
After yesterday's wet . day and a night of heavy rain the weather broke for the better this morning, and by midday the people of Wellington were rejoicing in resplendent sunshine with a clear" blue sky overhead and a gentle southerly breeze. The improvement, however, appeal's to be only temporary, as the forecast at 9 a.m. to-day was by no means promising. It is for cold and changeable weather with scattered showers, particularly in the northern districts, with southerly winds, moderate to strong, veering to westerly, northward of Hokitika and Lyttelton.
