'A meeting- ( was held at, Petoiio last evening: to form a building - society on Starr-Bowkett lines. The Mayor (Mi-: J. W. M'Ewan) occupied the chair, and explained the objects of the society, a. special feature of which was that loans wore- not only procurable for securing a home, but also for improvements and repairs necessary from time to.time. ,Mr. A. Cassic was appointed permanent chairjiiaii. of tho society, a-nd the following vrero elected directors: —Messrs. VincSnt, Udy, ParsQns, Staples, Gregory, Martin, Kyle, and Jones.'
