HUTT VALLEY PAGEANT
A well-attended meeting of the Hutt Valley Pageaat Committee was held in, P"etone last evening, the Mayor (Mr. J-. W. M'Ewan) presiding. The Port Nicholson Yacht Club, Evans Bay Yacht Clul>, and Wellington Motor Boat Olub wrote stating that they^ would take part,in the representation of the landing of early settlers. It was decided to ask the Mayor oil Lower Hutt (Mr. E. P. Rishworth) to call a public meeting at Lower Hutt to invite the citizens of Lower Hutt to take part in carrying out the pageant. The offer of the Wellington Waterside Workers' Band to play'during-the celebrations was accepted. 'It was decided to. arrange for the tran&port of the children from the Taita and E'puni Schools. The business people of Jackson-street are to 'be asked to decorate their premises, and the Gear. Company to provide an arch.
Tenders are to be called for refreshment booths on the beach during the pa-geant. Invitations are to be issued to the Mayor and City Councillors, the Pre--mier, Members of Parliament, chairman and members of the Hutt County Council, Hutt Eiver Board, Mayor and councillors Hutt Borough Council, Mayor and councillors Eastbourne Council, chairman and members of Wellington Education Board.
The Chairman reported that he had been informed by the rJnder-Secretary t of Internal Affairs that no alteration would be made in the timetable set down' for the Prince's visit to Betone, and, therefore, he could not see how the Prince could go to the proposed football match to be held in Wellington. .. The various committees reported good progress, and the movement is now being' taken up -with, great enthusiasm. The committee is making arrange-^ ments to accommodate a very large number of visitors, and a grandstand is to be erected capable of holding from 8000 to 10,000 spectators.
