PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL
The. fortnightly meeting of the Pet-one Borough Council was held this week. Present: The Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan). Councillors E. Tovey, G. Cook, D. JI. Bedingfield, A. Anderson, W. Hay, J. Churchouse, W Cox, C. P. Brookelbank, Kyle;
I ( The Town Clerk of Diinedin wrote ask- ; iig the council to. support a resolution j passed by the Dunedin City Council urging the Government to grant a State bonus for parents of large families. The Mayor moved that this practical suggestion he heartily endorsed. Councillors gene-ally supported the idea, and themotion was carried. The secretary of the Wellington City Gas Workers' Employees Industrial Union of Workers advised that the Petone gas workers had deoided to link up with the Wellington Gas Workers' Union. Pi'oposaU would be forwarded to the council, when a conference could be held and matters discussed. Councillor Cox eaid they had always dealt direct with the gas stokers a.nd had always met them fairly. Now they had joined the Wellington Union the gas manager should have the-.right to discharge or keep on any man h© wished. Councillors Anderson and Churchou-se held that the men had a right to join the Wellington Union if they so wished. Whether they would be better off was a matter for themselves. The letter was received. A petition was received from the reeiJ dents of Cuba-street asking that the footpath be formed. The engineer was requested to make some repairs before the winter sets in. The Central Bowling Club wrote ask | ing thai the season be extended for a | fortnight. The matter was referred to [ the Reserves Committee.
