A BURIAL AT SEA
RENOWN AT BARBADOES. (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN - SEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) BARBADOES, 29th March. When no further hope was entertained on the Renown of recovering Gunner Lush, who fell overboard on 24th March, the ship was stopped, and the most touching funeral service was held on the forecastle deck, the whole ship's company being drawn up, with a band arid a firing party of the dead man's comrades. The Prince )of Wales and his Staff attended, together with the ship's officers, in full uniform, wearing swords. The chaplain conducted the . service, standing on an elevated structure, beneath the muzzles of the gigantic 15-inch guns. "Abide With Me" was sung, with hand, accompaniment, and a subdued roll of drums, tho whole ship's company of 14C0 standing bareheaded. Marines fired three volleys, and a bugler sounded the "Last Post.", the mournful note floating nway on the breeze over the spot where the unfortunate gunner was last seen sinking in the sea. The Renown then resumed her voyage, with increased speed, to reach Barliadoes on schedule time. The cruiser Calcutta, with Admiral Everett on board, Wii* aiglited early on the monunsr of 2Stfe March, approaching the Renown as (in escort. ; When she was close a cutter from the Renown was lowered, and rowed to the Calcutta, and brought back a flag lieutenant with despatches. The Prince had an enthusiastic reception in Barbadoes, and entertained the Governor and leading residents at a dinner and dance on board the Renown. WASHINGTON, 30th March. It was announced that Commodore Charlton, British Air Force attache, will leave shortly for San Francisco.to meet the Prince of Wales.
