The E vans' Bay Yacht and Motor Club held a general handicap - race for yachts on Saturday in perfect weather. There was a strong S.E. wind and fairly smooth water. The following -yachts started: — Waitangi, Atalanta, Romp. Viking, Venus, and Seabird. In a flying start the boats all got away well in line, except Atalanta, who was 12 minutes late in reaching the line. On tho run to tho north buoy Waitangi and Romp took (he lead and rounded the mark close together, tho other boat* being close behind, except Atalanta, which w-as a long way behind. On tho beat back Waitangi gained several minutes, and Atalanta put- in some fine windwnrd sailing, overhauling and passing Viking and Sea-bird. On tho run back to the north buoy she also passed Venus. The wind had now increased, and there woro some fairly heavy gu6t». On tho beat homo Atalsnta passed Romp, and the line was crossed, as follows:—Waitansji, 4hn>. 24min Oscc.): Atalanta, 4hrs. 34min. 23sec.; Ronip,.4hrs. 39min. 1250 c.; Seabird, 4hrs. 44min. Osec.; Venus, 4hrs. 44min. lOsec.; _ Viking, shrs. Bmin. 43sec. With the handicap adjustments the yachts were" placed as follows: —L. and R. Ibbotson's Romp (handicap 24min.), Ist; H. Roberta's Seabird (27min.)) 2nd; Edwards and Martin's Venus (27min.), 3rd. Tho special prize donated by the coramodoro for tho yacht completing the course in the fastest time was won by Messrs. Adams and Hill's Atalanta, which,put up a very _ fine performance, beating Wait&ngi's time by. a small margin.
