CANADIAN CAUCUS DECISION
PRESENT FLEET TO BE ABOLISHED.

A Government caucus decided by an overwhelming majority to refuse to accept Admiral Jellicoe'e plans for the Canadian Navy. The Government is offering the existing warships for sale, and is closing the naval bases at Esquimalt and Halifax. : The offer of ships from Britain i» tp be refused
[Canada has no effective warships. The Niobe, a cruiser of 11,000 tons, built in 1897-99, and- the Rainbow, a cruiser of 3600 tons, built in 1891-93, are used for training purposes ;' and the rest of the ships are sloops, gunboats, etc., used for. coast patrol and survey and other work of the kind.] '" - : : ■
