LONDON, 19th March,
Mr. Lloyd George's reception at the Liberal meeting, at which 116' members were present, showed that his personal popularity had not been impaired. He bad a. great ovation, his opening address being punctuated by cheers. Mr. Lloyd George did not use the word fusion "in his adress, which was mainly a plea for continuance of the Coalition on the ground of the peril the country has to face, as well as the gamble of Socialism. He contended that the real danger would be in a conflict between the Liberals and the Unionists, in which, the Socialists might snatch a temporary majority. The Socialists were beginning by demanding the nationalisation of industries. If tried, this^experiment in Socialism would fail, but it be harmful because once commercial ■ prosperity departs it rarely comes back again, so that our peril was great.
