SENIOR SHIELD WON BY PETONE

The annual teams matches for the Wellington City and Suburban Rifle Club's Challenge Shields (senior and junior) were fired at Trentham on Saturday afternoon. Although the weather conditions were good for most forms of outdoor recreation, they were not so good from a shooting point of view. The •vagaries of Trentham's light breezes are appreciated only by marksmen. On Saturday about seventy men took part in the matches, and of these only ten scored 90 points or more put of a possible 105. A special feature of the match was a "possiblo" at 600 yards registered by liifieman Franklyn, of the Old Navals' Club. The highest score over all ranges was notched by Rifleman Warburton, of Petone. " At the conclusion of the match President Fellingham, acting-chairman of the Rifle Club Union, complimented the Petone Club, on its well-deserved win, and paid a graceful tribute to tho excellent standard of shooting which* the Petone Club had maintained. Mr. lrellingham also conveyed the .thanks of the competing teams to Mr. H. Hawthorn, who as honorary range officer had once again carried out tho work so efficiently. He also thanked Messrs. W. Cowan 'and J. Jl'Donald, whose experienced knowledgo as trench officers had been of great assistance to tha conduct of the match. The following are detailed scores of the teams :—
