DRIVERS' WAGES
APPLICATION FOR INCREASE
REVISION OF AWARD.
The Wellington Motor Car, Horso Drivers' and Stable . Attendants Union has cited the employers of drivers to answer an application under the War Legislation Amendment Act for a modification of the Drivers' Award.
This is in accordance with the authority given to the Court to amend awards in view of the increasing cost><4f living. The union is claiming wages increases o£ 4s a week for men and youths, and Id an hour for casual drivers: also an increase of Id per hour in the rate for stable work and attendance to motors, and 4d an hour for overtime. Sunday and holiday work, for all employees. The application will come on for hearing at the next sitting of the Court of Arbitration, which opens in Wellington on 12th February. It is understood that Wellington employers will not oppose the application for amendment of the wages rates, and that they are already paying the amount asked for, but that they have not agreed to increases for overtime and stablo work. .. Similar applications- are being made by Drivers' Unions in other centres.
