RE-OPENING OF SCHOOLS
DEFINITE STATEMENT EXPECTED. No developments of importance have taken place in connection, with the outbreak of influenza. The main question agitating the public mind at the moment is as to when the schools are to be permitted to re-open. Parents are naturally anxious to keep their children away from the cities as long as possible, but unless they are assured of being given) ample notice of the re-opening of the schools this is somewhat difficult to do. The Acting Chief Health Officer (Dr. R. H. Makgill) is at present out of Wellington, but it is probable that he may issue a definite statement in regard to the schools within the next day or two. Meantime the Departmental officers state -that it is improbable that the schools will re-open before next Monday.
