A DISHONEST PORTER
A young man named Percy Valentine Johns, who had been employed at the Empire Hotel from February!/) September last as a porter, pleaded guilty when Drought before Messrs. R. D. Hanlon and I. Salek, J.P.s, at the Magistrate's Court yesterday to charges of having stolen » ring valued at £40, tho property of Sachael de Pass, on '27th August, a handbag containing a cameo bracelet, j-wp rings, a gold brooch, a pair of glasses, and about oue pound in money, of a total value of £40. the property of Mary Murray Roberts.' on 31st August, a watch .valued at £5. beloning to William Trcmbath on 29th September,' and a gold-filled watch and a gold chain, valued at £3, from some unknown person, on 18th July. Detective-Sergeant Rawle, who conducted the prosecution, said that two of the thefts were from guests at the hotel, while the fourth was from a person at the New Zealander Hotel.
Accused was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
