DISTURBING PREDICTIONS

10 IHB EDITOR,

Sir, —The writer has more, than-once since 1914 found occasion to express pleasure that statements in your leading articles concerning Scripture and spiritual things display a knowledge only to be expected in one having a more ordinary intimacy with Bible truths and a closer acquaintance with current Christian religious literature than is generally to be met with nowadays outside of those making a close study of the same. One was therefore disappointed to find the recent'utterance of the Rev. Prebendary WebbPeploe so incorrectly referred to in Saturday's Post. We have read ourselves the denial of the Prebendary that his utterance had any bearing upon the end of the world, but instead he gave it as his solemn conviction that this year would most likely see the end of the "Times of the Gentiles." For what that means we read in St. Luke's Gospel, chapter xxi., 24, that Christ said : " Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled." Did you not notice, Mr. Editor, that on the. 31st December, 1917, through General Allenby's victories, that for the first time during long centuries Jerusalem was,set free to be occupied by its rightful owners, the Jews? That the Scriptures, and especially the Book of Daniel, contain sure and certain predictions is clear, for how else is it possible that the iate Grattan Guinness could have writtnn so positively in 1886 concerning Gentile supremacy of the Holy Land and Jewish restoration and the importance of the years 1915 and 1917? On page 345 of " Light for the Last Days " we read: "The secret things belong to God. . . but there can be no question that those who live to see this year 1917 will have reached one of the most important—perhaps the- most momentous—of these terminal years of crisis." All who are familiar with Bible prophecy along the lines of chronology and the Book of Daniel are expecting great things to happen any day now concerning the settlement between the Powers a:,d Turkey and the question of tho future ownership of Palestine.—l am, etc.,
