OTAKI
MR. W. H. FIELD'S CAMPAIGN
Mr. W. H. Field, Reform candidate for the Otaki seat, is making a rapid tour of his extensive electorate. Speaking at Paekakariki on Thursday last, he disavowed use of the term "Bolshevism" except as part of a quotation from Mr. Samuel Gompers, the president of tha American Federation of Labour, probably the greatest living leader of Labour. It was naturally regarded as a term of.reproach in this country, Mr. Field said, but- it had already been defined by the Maoriland Worker, which declared that Russian Bolshevism and Socialism were ono and the same.
Dealing with his opponent, Mr. Macdonald, Mr. Field said he regretted to find that he had incurred that gentleman's displeasure so much that he was reported to be exhorting his hearers to vote for the Labour candidate if they could not see their way to support him (Mr. Macdonald).. Mr. Field assured his hearers that he had from the beginning of tho campaign said nothing and done nothing to which Mr. Macdonald could take, liio least pzcontion^
