TEACHERS' SALARIES
Provision was made by Parliament last session for increased grants to governing bodies of secondary and high schools and technical colleges, and increased capitation for manual and technical instruction to enable the salaries of teachers to be raised. In the case of secondary schools an amount of £22,000 was provided. The. Education Amendment Act provided for the issue of regulations to bring these proposals into operation. The regulations have not yet been gazetted, but in order that tho teachers may receive their increases by Christmas, the governing bodies have been advised of the Department's proposals so that they may make the payment, which in all cases dates back to Ist April.
