GRAND OPERA SEASON.
On Monday night, 22nd December, the J. C. Williamson Grand Opera Company will commence the Wellington season with a performance of one of the most popular operas in their repertoire, "Faust." For this a special star cast has been selected, including Amy Castles, who has returned, to Australasia fresh from her triumphs in America. Miss Castles will appear as Marguerite, one of her most notable roles. Another important artist will be Ralph Errolle, tenor from the Metropolitan Opera House, New York, who will appear as Faust. Alfredo Valenti, a prominent basso, will be Mephistopheles, and others in the cast will include Frank Charlton, Tom Minogue, Vera' Bedford, and Thelma Carter. There will be an augmented grand operatic orchestra of 40, and a chorus of 60, conducted by Mr. Gustav Slapoffslri. Other operas to be produced during the first week of the season inclule Offenbach's brilliant work, "Tales of Hoffman," on Tuesday; "La Boheme" on Wednesday, a grand classical concert on Thursday (Christmas Night).
