.SYDNEY, 9th December.

A wireless message reports that the Australian Steamships, Ltd., steamer Bombala (3640 tons) is ashore at the Salamander Reef, outside Townsville. The passengers were landed safely. Steamers are standing by the Bombala, which was en route to Queensland with a full cargo.

Later information states that the Bombala's position is serious. Attempts to refloat her have failed, and she is likely to become a total wreck.
