LPCBUBHED ki abhahobjtejt.J PROHIBITION TACTICS AN EXPOSURE. Speaking in Dunedin on Ist December, the Reverend R. S. Gray said :— • Another way they could get it (i.e., gtate Control) wag by not paying any compensation, at all. They could vote Prohibition this time, give it a trial for three years, and then, if Prohibi- | turn was a failure, and the country wanted State Control, they could have another vote." | The suggestion made is altogether misleading. WHAT IS THE TRUTH? The Licensing Act of 1918. Section 64 provides that in the event of Prohibition' being carried: "No Licensing Poll shall at any time thereafter be taken m any district." (See Section 64, Licensing Amendment Act, 1918). The Rev R. S. Gray ought to have known if he did not, that the Licensing Act had this provision. It has been publicly pointed out to him, yet what happens ? THE REVEREND GENTLEMAN'S REPETITION. Speaking at the Town Hall, Wellington, last night, the Rev. R, S. Gray Is reported thus:— „ "Mr- Gray then went on to point out that the people of New Zealand could get State control if they first voted irohibition in. Let them wipe out the liquor trade first, and give Prohibition a trial for three years." This Rev. R. S. Gray knows very well ™", , IS. , no «** tWng as a three thf ™,i ral- tJ't? ? n, "ttem Pt to miskad the public If Prohibition is carried the people will not have another chance, as l™ ™, ga*es no provision for another p /J. ?F° h,blt»o» is given a trial." -froiubition is undemocratic.
