MR. L. M'KENZIE AT ROSENEATH

A well-attended meeting at Roseneath School was addressed by Mr. Len M'Kenzie, Liberal candidate for AVellington East. Mr. _ Burbidge was in the chair.

The candidate outlined his idea for land settlement, bursting up large areas, and settling the land to produce the goods in order to provide for the national debt, and strengthen the finances of the Dominion. Dealing with the urgent need of greater technical educational facilities, which must be introduced, and free to all, he stated that there waa a great need of commercial knowledge, and more money was necessary to attract the very best teachers. He stood for improvement in the coal supply, the opening up of new mines, and better machinery to provide the coal for the household and Government needs. He said the Reform Government wanted to encourage immigration, and!yet we could not house the people already here, and could not keep up with our present demands. Why not put our own home in order before making new troubles? Charity begins at home, and they found that the present Government had failed, and, furthermore, was even now unable to settle the returned meji properly, and surely this waa the first charge on the country. The candidate was accorded a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence.
