The Liberal candidate for Hutt, Mr. T. M. Wilford, spoke at Day's Bay last evening- The chair was occupied by; Mr. J. B. Findlay. Mr. Wilford. traversed the points made by him in his previous speeches* Dealing with the cry of Reform about vote-splitting, the candidate said that if Reform wanted an instance pf vpte-splitting. they could lcok at the Hutt. He, who had repre-: sehted the district for twenty years, had been announced, and the Labour candidate, the nominee of the-Federa-tion of Labour, had been announced, and then the Reform Party came in and put up a candidate; for what purpose he would leave the Reform Party to explain. Mr. Wilford stated that Reform knew that it had no chance of success in the Hutt district, and that every veto cast for the Reform candidate was a vote fpr the • Labour candidate. Notwithstanding such votesplitting, Mr. Wilford said he would receive the .support of the majority of the electors.
After several questions had. been asked and answered, Mr R. T. Turnbull proposed the customary vote, which was carried unanimously.
