CENTRAL CHAMBER MEETS.

The Council of the Central Chamber of Commerce met yesterday afternoon. Mr. A. L. Hunt presided, pending tho arrival, of the president (Mr. C. M. Luke).

The General Manager of Railways advised that the question of reappointing a commercial agent was now being considered/ in conjunction with other matters concerning the railway staff, and the Chamber would be advised as soon as a decision ..was. .arrived at. Mr. .'Hunt explained that Mr. Hiloy had emphasised the importance of having a link between the Railway Department and the commercial community j but the office had apparently dropped out of sight. They had an- example' of what co-operation could do in the special committees set up to work with the officers of tho Department at the time of the railway cut. It was decided to bring the question forward in the form of a remit at the Chambers of Commerce, conference in January if something is not done in the meantime.

Mr. H. W. Tolan reported the result of an interview with the General Manager of Railways (Mr. R. W. M'Villy) regarding, a request from Grey town for a ;better Wairarapa se.rvice by,making a non-stop run from Wellington to Upper Hutt. Mr. M'Villy stated that it was tho policy- of the Department to run nonstop trains wherever possible, but he was now met by a request from, Petone. that air trains should stop there.
