WILLIAMSON'S GRAND OPERA.
■ Once again the- Williamson-: firm is sponsoring grand opera in New Zealand. On Monday, 22nd December, a, season will be inaugurated at the Grand Opera House with a performance of* Gounod's "Faust.". The members of the company include the artists who won much commendation during the recent successful Melbourne and Sydney seasons. They are: Misses Patti Ru6seh, Strella Wilson, Elsie Treweek, Leah Myers, Thelma Carter, Vera Bedford, and Gladys Verona. To, this list there is how to be added Miss Amy Castles—an important engagement. The men are Walter Wheatley, Alfred Valenti, Vittorio Lois, Carl Formes, Raymond Loder, all special engagements from America, and a young Melbourne tenor, Browning Mummery, rejoicing in "an extraordinary tenor voice." It is stated that the season is to be of the - "popular" order as far as the prices are- concerned. As already indicated, the opening opera will be "Faust," with Amy Castles, Ralph Errolle, Alfredo Valenti, Raymond Loder, and Thelma Carter in the cast. On Tuesday, thefirst presentation in New Zealand of Offenbach's brilliant work, "Tales of Hoffman," will be given, with Eileen Castles, Carl Formes, Tom Minogfe, Elsie Treweek, and Patti Russell as the leading" characters. Wednesday will be devoted to "La Boheme," with Miss Amy Castles as . Mimi. On Thursday (Christmas .night) a grand and classical concert will be given, in which the full strength of the company will participate. "II Trovatore" will be produced on Friday, with Vittorio Lois, Carl' Formes, Alfredo Valenti, Nello Barontini, Isla Gamble, Vera Bedford, and Strella Wilson in the leading roles. "Madame Butterfly" on Saturday evening will complete the first week. ' Tlie cast includes Walter Wheatley, Raymond Loder, Fred Collier, Browning Mummery, Leah Myers, and Amy Castles in the title role. The box plans for the first six nights of the season open at the Bristol on Tuesday next. Full particulars of the booking arrangements are announced elsewhere.
