PUBLIC APOLOGY DEMANDED,
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT.)
(AUSTRALIAN - NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.)
(Received December 6, 11 a.m.) NEW YORK, 2nd December.
The Pekin correspondent ,of the New York Times reports that the landing of Japanese troops at Foochow has caused great excitement among the Chinese, who demand the recall of the Japanese Consul and a public apology. There is also a great deal of dissatisfaction at the action of the Japanese Consul at Tientsin, who demanded the removal of the chairman of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce because of the boycott against the Japanese. [Japanese marines landed at Fuchow, from a _ warship, paraded in the Japanese concession, and unsuccessfully endeavoured to enter the Chinese city. Many Chinese were arrested. The action of the Japanese was due, according to the earlier cables, to anti-Japanese demonstrations. The Chinese have enforced a widely spread and apparently effective boycott against Japanese goods since the Shantung crisis arose.]
