BODY OF A BABY FOUND

ASHBURTON, sth December
Tho police received advice yesterday evening that the body of a newly-born male infant had been found at the residence of J. Bishop, at Tinwald, between the copper and tho wall of the washhouse. Tho body was removed to the morgue, whore a post-mortem examination was held this morning before Mr. J. Cow, District Coroner. Dr. T. Pettey deposed that the child had been born alive, and that death was due to strangulation with a piece of tape, which he produced. Subsequently he examined a girl named Katherine Small, who admitted that she was tho mother of the child. The inquest was adjourned for a week, (.he Coroner intimating lhat criminal proceedings would follow. »
