CHRISTCHURCH PRODUCE MARKET. (BI TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) CHRISTCHURCH, sth December. There has been brisk business in chaff during the past few days, inquiry being keen on the part ot farmers. Supplies are coming to hand in fair quantities, and the loca! demand is being fairly well met. The North Island demand is still keen, but the lack ot shipping is preventing operations being developed as they would otherwise be. The north is very short of chaff, but merchants have had to advise in some cases that orders can only be fulfilled contingent on transport facilities being arranged by the inquirers. tip to £3 per ton is being offered for good oaten sheaf chaff at country stations. There is a good demand from the North Island for Italian ryegrass, and several extensive orders have been completed by local merchants. Cocksfoot, however, is in less demand, North Island requirements being largely met by locally-grown supplies. Oats are in scarce supply, and al! available are readly saleable at 5s per bushel, at country stations, for the three principal varieties. Merchants' dealing in potatoes are over, any supplies held locally by growers heing sold direct to consumers.
