Veitch, M.P., gave his opening political a-ddress at the Opera House to-night before a fairly large audience. The speaker dealt with the work of the .past session, and explained the various Bills placed on the Statute Book- In reply to questions, the speaker" said that he would be prepared to support a Bill next session giving an extra shilling a day to returned soldiers. He would follow his own convictions, but would be prepared to support the Liberals before Ithe' Reform Party. He could not support Mr. Holland as a leader. CLUTHA. DUNEDIN, 12th November. Mr. Maslin, Liberal candidate for Clutha, spoke at Balclutha on Tuesday. He dwelt on the benefits to the Dominion from the passing by the Liberal Government of the Land Settlement Act, Advances to Settlers Act, and other measures. He also contended that the performances of the Reform Government had fallen short of its promises as compared, with what had been done by the Liberal Party in the past. The speaker criticised many articles in Mr. Massey's manifesto, and said if elected he would oppose anything in the nature of militarism owing to the disorganisation which Sir James Allen's proposals for a four months' camp would bring in the farming community. The sp-eaker was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Mr. R. Rodger, of Tapanui, will contest the Clutha seat as an Independent. OAM ARU. . OAMARU, 12th November. _ Mr. E. P. Lee, sitting member, open"--cd his campaign in the Opera Houso tonight before a fairly large attendance. He gave a resume of tho work of the recent session, and dealt with pressing problems. He received a vote of thanks and confidence., He declared he would support Mr. Massey on a no-confidence motion, but would maintain his independence in demanding ensrgetic measures of reconstruction and progress in general i politics.
