SYNOPSIS OF LAST 24 HOURS. Fair weather has prevailed in the East Coast districts of the South Island, and was also in evidence this morning about Cook Strait. Elsewhero cloudy, unsettled conditions have ruled, with light rain in parts. The barometer has risen slowly in tho South, and strong westerly winds have prevailed over the North Island, and westerly to south-westerly wl*4s in the South.
