FIRE AT RACING STABLES
A HORSE DESTROYED.

CHRISTCHURCH, 10th Nov. About the time the Metropolitan Handicap was being run at Riecarton,it was seen that the stables owned by J. Barr, Epsom-road, Riecarton, were in flames. The stables were destroyed, and .one horse and a sheepdog perished. The fire was discovered by a small boy, who gave the alarm. There was no water available, and the fire burned itself out. Two of the racing horses, Humbug, winner of the Juvenile Plate, and Cantabile, who ran third in the Irwell Handicap, were in the stable, but were rescued. A new gig was destroyed. The origin of the firs is a mystery.
