MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE OF WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION

The Management Committee of the Wellington Cricket Association met last night, Mr. C. G. Wilson presiding. Representatives of the Boys' League urged upon the comfaittee the fostering of the game in the junior grades*, and appealed for an affiliation of the Boys' League with the parent body, with one of their representatives to sit on. the management committee.

Mr. P. W. Banks, chairman of the league, said that they (hoped that with the influence and assistance of the association they would be able to secure more playing areas and prepared wickets. The wickets generally allotted to the boys from time to time were a positive disgrace. The league at present asked only for affiliation, but if the association's committee deemed amalgamation the wiser course, the league's committee would give it their earnest consideration. They were prepared to leave the matter entirely in the association's hands. Their one aim and ambition was to improve the status and all-round play of their boys, which at present was a matter of impossibility.

Mr. Spolsky, secretary of the league, said that their main object was to secure better wickets for the boys. If tiiey were given improved playing conditions, the association would benefit later on. .

The Chairman said he thought it would be wise to appoint a committee of tliKs*•members to meet the Boys' League and devise a scheme for the betterment of tho playing conditions of the boys^. The committee selected consisted of Messrs. M'Kenzie, Johnston, and Hughes. Entries for the various, grades in the competition in the new season were received as follow:—Senior, 6 : teams; junior, 16 teams; third grade, 14 teams. The qtiestionof the date on which the season shall be opened was referred to the Grounds Committee. Arrangements were made to send an eleven to Wanganui on Saturday next to play a representative fixture against the Wanganui Association. The finances of. the Wanganui Association are by ho means healthy, and the visit is being paid with the object of assisting ill to raise fund's. To this end each member of the Wellington team will pay his own expenses. The action of the Wellington Association is the outcome of the visit the Wellington representatives made tq Wanganui | last season, when an offer was made to lend Wanganui a helping hand in the direction indicated.
