SMOKE CONCERT AT LOWER HUTT

The first annual smoke concert held by the members of "D" Company, sth (Wellington) Regiment, took place in the Drill Hall, Lower Hutt, last night. A long programme was gone through. Those who contributed musical items were:—Messrs. Rishworth, Nicholls, and, Ginger. Mr. G. W. Vauglian presided at the piano. A lively ventriloquial iteni was also/given "by Mr. G. W. Vaiighan. Supper was served, and among the toasts proposed were: "The King," "Our Returned Soldier Guests," "Major Baker," and "The Staff of the sth Regiment." An opportunity was then taken' of. presenting Captain Slinn and Lieutenant Rishworth with suitable presents, •as they are leaving rthe company, having been placed on the retired list. Bo.th officers hear,tily responded, and spoke' on military matters past and present. Great thanks are due to the committee, who worked hard- to make the affair a success. ;
