His splendid example and heroism inspired all ranks, wfio were at the point of .exhaustion, with the enemy less than a hundred yards distant. Meritorious Service Medals have been awarded the following .two Australians : —Sergeant-Majoi' J. F. Baumgan, 2nd Artillery Brigade ,• Private R. Wood, 2nd Machine Gunners. The awards are in recognition . of- devotion to' duty -during an epidemic among prisoners in camp in Germany.,
